Press Releases
Helping You Get Your Story in the News
It starts with the story…
Getting media attention starts long before a press release is written.
What makes your announcement newsworthy? Why should a journalist care? More importantly, why should their readers, viewers, or listeners care?
That’s where I start.
I help businesses and organizations uncover the strongest angle, develop the story, write a professional press release, identify the right media, and pitch it to the people most likely to be interested.
Because a press release isn’t simply about getting your news out. It’s about giving the media a story worth telling.
The Right Story Makes the Difference
You may know exactly what you want to announce – a milestone, new service, expansion, event, award or initiative.
But what matters to your business isn’t necessarily what will matter to the media.
That’s why strategy comes first.
I look at your news from a journalist’s perspective. What’s interesting? What’s timely? Is there a human-interest angle, a local connection or a larger story your news can become part of?
Sometimes the obvious story is the right one. Sometimes we need to dig deeper.
And sometimes I’ll tell you that what you want to announce simply isn’t newsworthy enough – yet.
A well-written press release is important. But there’s much more involved in getting your story to the media.

Experience Behind the Pitch
I’ve been helping businesses tell their stories since 1997, and publicity has been part of that work for decades.
I’ve written and pitched press releases that have generated coverage in local, regional, trade and national media. One even resulted in a call from The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, interested in booking my client.
Over the years, I’ve learned that you don’t necessarily need the biggest story to get media attention.
You need to find the most interesting one.
Thanks for writing our media release. It worked really well. The same day it was sent out, the local television station came out to do a story. I asked the reporter how many media releases they receive in a day, and he said nearly 400. I figured they couldn’t possibly read them all, but he assured me they do.
So, I asked why they picked ours. He said, “It was the way it was written.”
That spot on the evening news also led to coverage in the local newspapers. A-one job! Thanks a lot!
Can I Guarantee Media Coverage?
No – and no reputable PR professional can.
Journalists, editors and producers decide which stories they cover. News cycles change, priorities shift, and sometimes a strong story simply arrives on the wrong day.
What I can do is give your story the strongest opportunity to be noticed.
Have a Story Worth Sharing?
You don’t have to know whether it’s newsworthy before you contact me.
Tell me what’s happening. I’ll ask the questions, look for the angle, and help you determine whether there’s a story the media may want to tell.
Not Sure You Have a Story?
You may not need a press release yet. You may simply need to uncover the possibilities.
In a one-hour Strategy Session, we’ll look at what’s happening in your business, brainstorm potential PR opportunities, and identify stories that could be worth taking to the media.
